Welcome to the Lake Poway Skimmers website. The Lake will be unsuitable for flying for the next several weeks due to an overgrowth of weeds near the shoreline. We will let you know when it opens up again. See Our Calendar of EventsWent by the lake today (8/24/24), it’s down another 3 or more feet from the last visit. Stopped at the ranger station to ask for some info. They have no idea about the lake level or weed removal at this time. |

Gents: 2023 was another good year as we added several new members and activity in general was on par with previous years. Our Monday flying sessions generally had 5 to 10+ members and we are averaging 2 flying dates a month. Two sessions a month seems to be the sweet spot for decent attendance. So, Read more
Bob Says for Jan 2024
We generally fly every other Monday, except Holidays. In case of a holiday, we will often pick the Monday before or after as the makeup day. We will notify members via email of the makeup day. So yes, this means we may fly consecutive Mondays on occasion. Please check the calendar for scheduled flying days. Our primary use of the lake is for RC aircraft although we do allow RC boats as a secondary usage. Please see the rules regarding RC boating. You are required to be both a current AMA member and Lake Poway Skimmers member to operate any RC aircraft or boat at the lake.
If the weather looks bad and we have to cancel a flying session, we will notify members via email by 11:00am Monday (day of). We will also notify members if the following Monday will be a makeup day.
Note we are permitted by City of Poway to fly every Monday but currently this is too hard on our site setup workers. We are working on adding more set up workers and plan to add flying dates to some months. We are only committing flying every other Monday at the current time.
Also, I would like to remind members that we need to drain and dry our planes and boats before leaving. This was requested to help prevent the spread of mussels (that are present even in Lake Poway) to other bodies of water.
Thanks,
Bob
