Skimmers will continue to
use the Lake for now

We are in discussions with Poway City officials

We have recently met with three officials on two occasions.  We learned the City needs our club to adhere to the most current rules and requirements for the use of city facilities, if we wish to continue using the lake.  Most of these requirements seem easily doable, a few not so much.  We, working along with the officials, have been given the first three months of 2026 to see how best to implement them.  More details later in subsequent emails from Curtis.

Curtis is now in the AMA Hall of Fame.

It’s from years of promoting the hobby locally and across the country. My involvement in the clubs and their events and the number of CDs I have done may not of hurt. Honestly it’s just from the level of involvement I have been over the years. They asked for list of what I have done and I could not remember all of it, but a couple of friends filled in the blanks. Starting in 2026 we will be required by the City of Poway to adhere to new requirements in order for us to continue using the lake.  Some are mentioned below but others are still being discussed.  Details will be sent via email to members and will also listed on this site as soon as they become available.

In 2026 we will be flying on second and fourth Mondays.  We will not fly on holidays.  Please check the calendar for scheduled flying days and hours of operation.  Our sole use of the lake is for RC aircraft, boats are no longer allowed.  You are required to be both a current AMA member and Lake Poway Skimmers member to operate any RC aircraft on the lake.

If the weather looks bad and we have to cancel a flying session, members will be notified via email by 11:00am Monday (day of).  There will be no make-up days.  

Also, I would like to remind members that we need to drain and dry our planes before leaving.  This was requested to help prevent the spread of mussels (that are present even in Lake Poway) to other bodies of water.
